Walkerton PD Spreading Holiday Cheer "Shop With A Cop"

Our community partnerships have really excelled this year! We have received donations from private citizens, local businesses, township trustees, and the Town of Walkerton. With this year’s record-breaking support, we are able to help more families than ever before!

We are taking 35 children, carefully selected from 18 locally nominated families, shopping this year! We buy necessities first and then focus on toys, games, etc. Our retail partner provides cookies, candies, drinks, and an opportunity to meet Santa Claus!

I wanted to also fill you in on a few new partnerships we have developed to make this year’s shop extra special. The president of the Walkerton Metropolitan Police Board, Gene Reese, works with an organization that provides meals to people in need. He has done outstanding work with the Walkerton Food Pantry, and is always looking for more ways to contribute to our community. This year, Gene is providing 100 free meals to the families selected for this year’s shop.

In addition, Walkerton Police Sergeant, Jim Christie, has partnered with the Walkerton Bible Baptist Church to provide Christmas day meal baskets to several of the hardest hit families participating in this year’s shop.

I am also excited to announce that other police agencies are lending a hand this year, as we have a larger group than in the past. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Starke County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Roseland Police Department, and the Osceola Police Department are sending officers to help the children shop.

It has truly been a blessing for me to be allowed to organize this year’s shop! I am extra-excited about the new partnerships we have developed and the additional children we are helping. From the Chief of Police down, there is a buzz of excitement in the air for this year’s shop.

This is the 8th year for our shop and each year it grows, develops and evolves. For me, this is a testament to kind, caring, and loving Walkerton community that we serve, live, and work in. From everyone at the Walkerton Police Department, we would like to wish all a safe and blessed holiday season.
