Working on creating a forever home for future generations the Main Street Walkerton Group continues its efforts to innovate history and revitalize downtown Walkerton business. The group of volunteers are working on livening up the Roosevelt Rd. business district with art windows painted by JGHS Art students, building a fence to protect pedestrians from empty lots, and mounting historic markers on noted locations.

They are also organinzing the annual "Cruise In." It will begin the third Friday of May and will take place every third Friday until September. They originally had wanted a twice a month cruise in, but felt that was too much time to dedicate and sponsor. Especially,as they put it "over busy summer weekends?" They are discussing a food truck/vendor, and musical entertainment for the events.
For every $1 used to support the local Main Street Program an average of $56 in new investment is leveraged. This makes Main Street one of the most successful economic strategies in America! It is funded by OCRA (Office Community Rural Affairs), State of Indiana, led by Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. Walkerton adopted the program in 2018 to prioritize historic preservation and restoration. To improve quality of place. To organize multigenerational gatherings. And just making Walkerton a place to feel fulfilled and proud to live.
