Joseph Wears Dreamcoat Out Of Egypt At John Glenn Theater Company

Took a moment to catch up with Director, Jennifer Medich, who over 20 years ago, began as choreographer, and designer for the John Glenn Theater Company. She became the director of the celebrated troupe after Dick Fansler retired. Had to ask Jennifer what she has been up to since, her recent achievement with the John Glenn acting students she casted in "Clue?"

Medich has been attempting to stage a larger cast, musical production to give the kids first-hand experience much like on Broadway, New York!

The big musical comedy she selected turns out to be a challenge for most! Jennifer is staging "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat!" It is a timeless Old Testament frolic. "Dreamcoat" is a musical comedy with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The story is based on the "coat of many colors" story about Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis. This was the first "Lloyd Webber and Rice" musical to be performed publicly; and is their first collaboration, The Likes of Us, from 1965.

Jennifer summarized, "the story begins with Jacob, and his many sons."

"One, Joseph, the son from Jacob's old age by his favorite wife, Rachel, is given a new coat that is fit for a king."

"His older brother's grown jealous and decide, one day, to sell him into slavery."

"They tell their father that Joseph was killed by a wild animal."

"After years of slavery and prison in Egypt ,Joseph, is summoned before the pharaoh."

"While, in prison he interpret dreams for a servant close to pharaoh and it comes to pass. Joseph interprets for pharaoh and when it comes to pass is given his freedom and a position of status in Egypt."

Jennifer continues, "during, this time a famine hits the country and his starving brothers come to Egypt looking for food."

"And the rest? Well, you'll just have to come see the show!"

Jennifer, in her excitement added, "this particular show is a non-stop singing and dancing adventure. We have a large number of return, high school, talent. Many with 8 or more shows to their credit on the John Glenn stage. This show also highlights 22 of the next generation of the JGTC."

I asked her about additional casts? She said, "these kids are from Walkerton Elementary, North Liberty Elementary and Urey Middle School. We also, have a very talented orchestra pit, band of 15 students. Many returning for their 3rd time to play for the John Glenn Theatre Company. We also have a new tech-crew lead by a senior veteran."

"In total 75 kids."

"Joseph is a favorite among theater goers. It's catchy tunes and great dance numbers are sure to please!"

"I hope we will be able to come close to selling all four shows."

"This year our shows are next Friday, March 13th @ 7:30 pm, Saturday 14th @ 2:00pm, and 7:30 pm, then, Sunday @ 2:00 pm."

Box Office opens at the school on March 4th at 11:00am.

"By having a 22 member children's chorus we hope to lay the foundation for the next generation of students to participate in theater. " StarMakers Summer Camp" will have its fourth summer on the John Glenn stage."

"Starting June 29th it is open to any student that has completed the 3rd thru 8th grade."
